MECHANICAL CLEANING PROGRAMME
|
|
|
AGITATION, MOVEMENT AND PHYSICAL SEPARATION
ARE TYPICAL COMPONENTS of mechanical
cleaning. Usually the sludge must be
removed from the tank before implementing
a hydrocarbon recovery method. Removal
presents quite an obstacle if the sludge
is apshaltic, very compact or not fluid.
Once removed, the SLUDGE IS TREATED
TO RECOVER THE HYDROCARBON. External
recovery systems include belt presses,
hot pit, centrifuges and portable
storage tanks which allow separation.
These methods do not recover all the
hydrocarbon, leaving residual amounts on
the solids which may classify them as
hazardous. Hazardous waste is reduced,
but not eliminated. Mechanical methods
can also impact tank integrity, thereby
risking odor nuisances, vapour release
and soil contamination.

WASTE MINIMIZATION CHEMICAL PROGRAMME
|
|
|
The chemical methods discussed here
minimize waste through source reduction
and reduce recovery. Crude tank sludge
is transformed into high quality crude,
water and nonhazardous solids.
To do this, water and a chemical are
added to the tank along with a diluent
or light oil in which the recovered
hydrocarbon can get dissolved. The water
layer is heated to solubilize the
surface area of the sludge, allowing the
chemical penetrate to break up the
sludge. THe density of the primarily oil
laden sludge forces the sludge to ascent
through the water to the diluent / water
interface while the cleaning solution
extracts solids and water from the oil.
At this interface the chemical continus
to penetrate the sludge, stripping the
solids out. An emulsion breaking
component assures separate oil and water
layers. The heavy hydrocarbons from the
sludge disperse evenly through the
diluent for recovery.

DISOLVITE is a wonder chemical
which dissolves the crude-oil sludge in
petroleum refinery and pipeline oil
storeage tanks and converts sludge into
crude oil, water and residual mud and
muck. It is a liquid additive that
disperses the sludge by lowering the
interface tension between sludge and
oil, resulting in a homogenous mixture.
|
|
|
DISOLVITE is environment friendly
chemical which elimeinates the manual
cleaning of the sludge. The entire
sludge is dissolved, mud is removed out
of the tank and tank is ready for
recommissioning within 15 days. The
major technical, financial and
environmental advantages are as under :
|
1.
|
No sludge is required.
|
|
2.
|
No idle period of 4 to 8 months for
recommissioning of huge capactity crude
oil storage tanks, just 15 days only,
saving approximately Rs. 5 to 12 lakh
(US $ 10638.29 to 25531.91) per tank
according to the size of the tank.
|
|
3.
|
No effect on environment.
|
|
4.
|
No spillage of sludge on roads, which
normally occurs if sludge is removed
manually.
|
|
5.
|
No fire hazards, human accidents.
|
|
6.
|
No paper work for inviting tenders for
sale of sludge from lagoons and nuisanse
of vehicle traffic inside installation
for removal of sludge.
|
|
7.
|
Lot of saving in foreign exchange due to
minimum 85% recovery of crude crude oil
from sludge inside the tank itself in 15
days.
|
|
8.
|
Best way of house keeping of the oil
installations.
