idle i.e. out of operation. In manual removal of sludge and final date of
decommissioning approximately 4-8 months period elapses. Due to presence of water pockets , sometimes the corrosion of bottom plates causes leakage of crude oil in tank farm areas.
Lot of expenses are incurred for inviting tender for sale of sludge from lagoons, awards of contract, frequent movement of trucks and
labor for lifting of sludge from lagoon after sale agreement is made, extra staff required for store/materials department and finance department. Besides there is constant evaporation losses in sludge lagoon. Special permission is to be obtained from Customs Department for sale of sludge percolated from imported crude at pipeline installations.
